We’re excited to announce the return of the Ohioana Book Festival coloring page project! After three years of going virtual, the 2023 Ohioana Book Festival will be taking place live and in person again on April 22 at the Columbus Metropolitan Library Main Branch (downtown). Each year at the event, the Ohioana Library hosts a kids’ room full of fun activities, crafts, and readings by the festival authors and illustrators.
From 2015-2019–up until the pandemic–Central and Southern Ohio SCBWI members sponsored an activity for the festival’s kids’ room. With the event’s return to an in-person format, we’re thrilled to partner with the festival again to showcase our chapter’s illustrators while giving children a fun activity to enjoy! We hope all of our illustrators will participate in this exciting project!
Additionally, we will showcase all coloring page illustrations here on our website.
Objective:
Design a coloring page for children to color at the 2023 Ohioana Book Festival that promotes reading.
Details:
–The final illustration must fit the dimensions of 8.5 x 11 inches. (These are the dimensions of a normal sheet of printer paper.)
–You may create your illustration in pencil, pen, marker, ink, or digitally, but it MUST be in black and white only. (Like what you would see in a coloring book.)
–Final art must be submitted as a high resolution (300 dpi) JPG.
–The illustration should be kid-friendly, fun, and promote reading.
–You may design your coloring sheet horizontally OR vertically.
–Your design can include words, but this is not required. If you do choose to add words, please make sure they are easily legible and appropriate for all children pre-k through fifth grade.
–You may add your name, email address, website, and/or social media accounts in one of the corners OR along the side of your illustration. This information will also be on a sign we print for the craft table.
–You can design as many coloring pages as you’d like. Be creative and have fun!
–For your coloring page to be included in the festival, you must be a current SCBWI member when you turn in your art.
Due Date:
-Illustrations must be emailed as a high resolution JPG (300 dpi) to ohiocensouth@scbwi.org by April 15, 2023. No illustrations will be accepted after this date.
-Please include your name as you would like it to appear, website, and social media account(s) when you email us your final JPG. We will be printing this information on a sign for the craft table.
