Wondering what an agent does?

Why do you need one? DO you need one?

What are agents looking for? What can make your query stand out from the pack?

Or maybe you've been submitting to agents, and wonder why your work has been rejected…

What’s missing from your story?

What do agents mean when they say: “This isn’t right for us”?

Here’s your chance to discover what happens behind the agenting scene. Literary Agent Danielle Chiotti will take you through her day– from reading submissions to negotiating contracts and everything in between, with a special presentation on Conflict and Tension, an area she’s found to be an issue with many manuscripts that show up in her inbox.

There’ll be plenty of time for Q and A, so please come with your questions ready!

Danielle Chiotti has worked in publishing for twelve years. Formerly an editor, she joined Upstart Crow when it was founded in 2009, specializing in young adult and middle grade fiction, as well as cookbooks and select nonfiction. Thanks to her extensive editorial background, she enjoys working closely with authors to develop projects. She welcomes first-time authors with a unique voice and point of view.
